Nerja is the easternmost town on the coast of Málaga province. Beyond it the cliffs continue into Granada province. The mountains come down close to the sea here, so the coast is made of coves and small beaches rather than one long strip of sand.
What it is like
- The Balcón de Europa. A promenade on a headland in the middle of town, with the old streets around it.
- Low-rise. Nerja has kept mostly low white buildings and has few tall blocks.
- The caves. The Nerja caves, just outside the town, are among the best-known sights in the province.
- An established international community. British and other northern European residents have lived here for a long time.
The white village of Frigiliana is a short drive inland, and Burriana is the largest of the town beaches.
Getting around
- No train. Buses run to Málaga.
- The A-7 motorway passes behind the town. Málaga airport is about an hour away by car.
- The centre is walkable but hilly, with steps down to the beaches.
Who it suits
Remote workers who want scenery, sea and mountains, and who only need an office or an airport now and then.
Keep in mind
There are no gaming offices here that we know of, and Marbella is at the other end of the coast. Most of our events will be a long drive, so check our events and join to hear when we come east.
