Torre del Mar is the coastal part of Vélez-Málaga, the main town of the Axarquía, the region east of Málaga. Vélez-Málaga itself lies a little inland. Torre del Mar is its beach town.
What it is like
- Flat and walkable. The town is level, with a wide sandy beach and a long, broad promenade that is good for walking and cycling.
- Lived in all year. It has ordinary shops, markets and schools, and it does not close down in winter.
- Spanish first. Summer visitors are mostly Spanish families, with a smaller international community than in the west.
- A working harbour next door. Caleta de Vélez, just to the east, has a fishing port and a marina.
The countryside behind is known for avocados, mangoes and white hill villages.
Getting around
- No train. Buses run to Málaga and along the coast to Nerja.
- The A-7 motorway passes just inland and is the way to Málaga and the airport.
- Inside the town you can manage on foot or by bike.
Who it suits
Remote workers and families who want a practical beach town and are happy to live mostly in Spanish.
Keep in mind
There are no gaming offices here that we know of. A Málaga office means a motorway commute, and Marbella is too far for most people to do daily. Read our guide to working in iGaming in Spain if you plan to work remotely.
