Puerto Banús is the marina in the municipality of Marbella, west of the town centre and the Golden Mile and east of San Pedro de Alcántara. It is small, and it is one of the best-known names on the coast.
What it is like
The port is lined with large yachts, designer shops and restaurants, and it has some of the best-known nightlife on the coast. It is lively in the evening all year and crowded in summer. If you are going to spot a celebrity anywhere on the coast, it is here.
The area is smaller than most people think, and few people actually live here, largely because of the traffic. There are apartments around the port and along the beaches on both sides, but most people come to go out or to shop. Locals come mainly for El Corte Inglés, the department store behind the port, which has a very wide range of almost everything you might need, and for the restaurants. There is also a cinema and everyday shops.
The residential area just inland is Nueva Andalucía, which we cover on the San Pedro de Alcántara and Nueva Andalucía page.
For work
Marbella’s gaming offices are a short drive away; see the company directory.
Getting around
- No train. Buses run along the coast road to Marbella and San Pedro.
- The port itself is flat and best on foot. A seafront promenade leads east to Marbella and west to San Pedro.
- Parking is difficult in summer and on weekend evenings.
Who it suits
People who want restaurants, shops and the beach outside the door and who like being where things happen.
Keep in mind
This is one of the more expensive parts of the coast. Summer brings traffic and, near the port, noise late at night.
