San Pedro de Alcántara and Nueva Andalucía are neighbours at the western end of the municipality of Marbella. San Pedro lies between Puerto Banús and Estepona, where the mountain road to Ronda leaves the coast. Nueva Andalucía is the residential area just to its east, behind Puerto Banús.

What San Pedro is like

San Pedro belongs to Marbella but feels like its own town, with people living and working in it all year. It holds its own feria in October.

Neighbourhoods

  • San Pedro centre. Shops, cafés and tapas bars on ordinary streets, most of it walkable. It suits people who want a Spanish town around them.
  • The boulevard. A long park with playgrounds and cafés, built over the tunnel that carries the coast road under the town. It joins the centre to the beach side.
  • San Pedro Playa. The newer streets between the town and the sea, with a wide promenade that you can follow on foot or by bike towards Puerto Banús.
  • Guadalmina. A residential and golf area on the western side, quiet and green, with houses as well as apartments.
  • Nueva Andalucía. Often called the golf valley, because several courses sit among its houses and apartment complexes. It climbs gently towards the mountains and has its own shops, restaurants, gyms and padel clubs, and a well-known street market on Saturday mornings. It is very international, and English and Swedish are heard more often than Spanish.

For work

Marbella’s gaming offices are a short drive away; see the company directory. Many remote workers and consultants in the industry also choose this end of Marbella.

Getting around

  • No train. You need a car, or the bus to Marbella, Málaga and the airport.
  • The A-7 runs under San Pedro, and the AP-7 toll motorway towards Estepona is close by.
  • Nueva Andalucía is spread out and hilly, so most residents there drive for everything.

Who it suits

San Pedro suits people who want to be close to Marbella and Puerto Banús but live somewhere quieter and more local. Nueva Andalucía suits people who want golf, padel and an international crowd on the doorstep. Both are popular with families looking at the international schools in the area.

Keep in mind

In San Pedro the beach is a walk from the centre rather than on its doorstep. Nueva Andalucía is one of the more expensive parts of the coast, and the roads around Puerto Banús are slow in summer. New here? Start with our guide to moving to the Costa Del Sol.
