Estepona is the largest town at the western end of the Costa Del Sol. Its old town is known for whitewashed streets lined with flower pots, and its seafront promenade runs for kilometres. Large murals painted on apartment blocks and an orchid house in the centre are part of the same effort to make the town greener and more walkable.

Why people choose it

  • The pace. Calmer and more Spanish than Marbella, with a lived-in old town.
  • The west. Gibraltar is within reach by car, which matters to people with work or colleagues there. See the Gibraltar page.
  • New homes. Much of the recent building on the coast has been between Estepona and San Pedro.
  • The American school. Estepona has many American residents. One reason is the Atlas American School of Málaga, which teaches an American curriculum and is in the Selwo area of the municipality.

Cancelada

Cancelada is a small village-like district at the eastern end of the municipality, on the way to San Pedro de Alcántara. The original village has low white houses, a square, a school, shops and places to eat, and it sits just inland from the coast road. Around it, new apartment complexes and houses have been built in recent years. It suits people who want a quiet, local base between Estepona and Marbella and who drive: the beach, both towns and the offices in Marbella are all a short drive away.

Getting around

  • No train. You need a car.
  • The A-7 coast road is free and busy. The AP-7 toll motorway is the faster way to Marbella and Málaga.
  • Málaga airport is a long drive. Gibraltar airport is an alternative for some routes.

Who it suits

Remote workers, people with ties to Gibraltar, and families who want a quieter town. Our events reach Estepona too, so you will not have to do all the driving. See our events.
