Gibraltar is not part of Spain and not part of the Costa Del Sol. It is a British Overseas Territory at the southern tip of the peninsula, next to the Spanish town of La Línea de la Concepción. It is on this list because some of our members work there and live on the coast.

For work

Gibraltar is one of the longest-established online gambling hubs in Europe. It has its own gambling law, its own licences and its own regulator, the Gambling Commissioner. A Gibraltar licence is not a Spanish licence. Many people employed in Gibraltar live in Spain and cross the border to go to work.

The licence holders include large sportsbook and casino operators such as Entain, bet365, William Hill, Betfred and BetVictor, lottery and bingo companies such as Lottoland and tombola, and suppliers such as Relax Gaming. See the full list in the company directory. Many gaming offices are in the World Trade Center on Bayside Road, beside the Ocean Village marina, and in the nearby Europort area.

Gibraltar has also moved early on prediction markets, the newest product in the industry. In spring 2026 it licensed its first prediction market operator, reported as the first such licence in Europe. A second licence followed, for WagerWire, and dedicated prediction market regulations were published on 13 July 2026.

It is a small place, almost like an island, and in iGaming everyone knows everyone. Think of Malta, but smaller and rockier.

Daily life

  • Language. English is spoken everywhere.
  • Housing. Finding a flat is hard. Rentals are scarce and expensive, and government housing is reserved for Gibraltarians and long-term residents. This is one reason so many people live in Spain.
  • Shopping. Many people cross from Spain to shop at Morrisons, the British supermarket on Westside Road. Many find some goods cheaper there, but remember that prices are in pounds. The Gibraltar pound is worth the same as sterling.
  • The monkeys. The Barbary macaques on the Upper Rock are the only wild monkeys in Europe. They sometimes come down into town.

The border

A UK-EU agreement on Gibraltar was signed on 14 July 2026 and has applied provisionally since 15 July 2026. Since then, routine checks on people at the land border are reported to have ended. The agreement still needs the consent of the European Parliament, so check the current situation before you plan a daily commute.

La Línea de la Concepción

La Línea is the Spanish town directly on the border, in Cádiz province. Gibraltar starts where its streets end. Many of the people who work in Gibraltar live here, and it has long been common for those who drive in from further along the coast to park in La Línea and walk across. It is a plain, working Spanish town rather than a resort, with long beaches on both sides and everyday shops and services. It suits people who want the shortest possible trip to a Gibraltar office and are happy to live in Spanish.

Getting around

  • Gibraltar is small and most of it can be covered on foot or by local bus.
  • It has its own airport, right beside the border.
  • From the Costa Del Sol you drive. There is no train along this part of the coast.

Who it suits

People with a Gibraltar job who want to live on the Costa Del Sol usually look at the west: Sotogrande, Manilva or Estepona.

Keep in mind

Working in one country and living in another affects your tax and social security. Take advice before you sign, and read our guide to working in iGaming in Spain.
