Sotogrande is a large residential estate in the municipality of San Roque. That puts it in Cádiz province, not Málaga province, and strictly speaking just beyond the Costa Del Sol. We include it because it is a common choice for people who work in Gibraltar.
What it is like
Sotogrande is low-rise, green and spread out: houses and apartments among golf courses, a marina with restaurants, and a beach. It is known for polo, with a tournament season in summer, and for golf. It is busy in July and August and very quiet for the rest of the year. There is no old town centre. For a Spanish town feel, people go to nearby villages or to San Roque itself.
The community is well-off, largely British and international, and it is popular with senior people who work in Gibraltar. Life here is calm: smart houses and cars, a beautiful marina, and many high-end restaurants and beach clubs.
For work
Gibraltar is a short drive away, which is the main reason people in our industry live here. See the Gibraltar page for the border and what to check first.
Getting around
- You need a car for everything, including the school run and the supermarket.
- Gibraltar airport is the closest. Málaga airport is a long drive along the coast.
Who it suits
Families who want space, quiet and an international school close by, and people with a job in Gibraltar.
Keep in mind
Marbella and Málaga are a long way east, so most of our evening events mean a real drive. Check our events for dates at the western end of the coast.
