Torremolinos is the first town west of Málaga and the one closest to the airport. It was one of the first resorts on the Costa Del Sol and is still a busy holiday town, but many people live here all year and commute to the city.

What it is like

  • The beaches. Long, sandy and backed by a promenade that runs the length of the town.
  • La Carihuela. The old seafront fishing district, known for its fish restaurants.
  • The centre. A pedestrian shopping area around Calle San Miguel, on higher ground above the beach.
  • An open town. Torremolinos has a long-established LGBT+ community and a relaxed, mixed crowd.

The town also hosts conferences, including tech events, at its congress centre.

For work

The draw is the short train ride to Málaga, where several gaming companies have technology teams; see the company directory.

Getting around

  • The C-1 train stops in the centre and links the town with the airport and Málaga in one direction and Benalmádena and Fuengirola in the other.
  • With the train, a car is optional here.

Who it suits

Frequent flyers and people who work in Málaga: no coastal town is closer to the airport or the city, and you can live here without a car. It also suits those who like a busy, open town with a long beach promenade on the doorstep.

Keep in mind

It is busy and can be noisy in high season, and the centre sits above the beach, so expect steps or slopes between the two.
